May 24, 2016 – Aurora, CO – Today, Vista PEAK Preparatory’s Business Education program of study in Aurora, CO was awarded the prestigious Excellence in Action award, which recognizes innovative and impactful Career Technical Education (CTE) programs of study across the nation. Vista PEAK Preparatory was one of the programs selected as an “Excellence in Action” award winner, based on its uniquely innovative and effective approach to offering rigorous coursework, authentic and meaningful work-based learning experiences, and supported transitions from secondary to postsecondary education and on to successful careers.
Vista PEAK Preparatory received the award in the Business & Administration Career Cluster from Advance CTE as a result of their commitment to providing authentic work-based learning opportunities with leading companies such as Noodles & Company and dedication to providing students with a combination of business expertise, employability skills and academic rigor preparing students with the skills they need for success. Vista PEAK Preparatory instructor, Michael Dougherty accepted the honor at an award luncheon and reception as part of the Advance CTE Spring Meeting in Washington, D.C.
“The Business Education Pathway at Vista Peak Preparatory has provided hundreds of students with real-life, relevant business skills, seamless transition into postsecondary programs, and access to work-based, contextual learning experiences,” said Valerie Dodrill-Killen, CTE Coordinator, Aurora Public Schools. “All of these components have prepared students for the rigorous academic coursework in postsecondary business programs, as well as entry into high-skill, and in-demand careers. The combination of a comprehensive curriculum paired with an exceptional instructor has proven to be in the best interests of these CTE students and provides a perfect foundation to continue to build on. We are extremely proud of the national recognition and believe it represents best practices in CTE programming and student outcomes.”
